Dear Wonderful Customers of Wilmette Pet Center,
With a heavy heart, I need to announce the closing of Wilmette Pet Center after being established for seventy-eight years. The last thirty-four years, Wilmette Pet has been my home. Due to my health and the redevelopment of Green Bay Road, it is time to say goodbye.
My love of helping pets and their people has filled my heart with fond memories. I feel great gratitude to every person and staff member that has walked through our door. You all shaped me into the person I am today. Wilmette is a wonderful family community and has been an amazing place to have a small business. Getting to know you and your family has been an honor and a privilege.
I have deep appreciation for the entire WPC staff. As I learned to process and live with ALS, you all took on more responsibility and commitment as I progressed. Many times, you have sacrificed your personal time to make sure our store had the help it needed. Thank you for carrying the torch. Any future employers will be fortunate to have you.
It has been difficult discussing my diagnosis of ALS; however, I have come to realize that not talking about ALS keeps this disease at low awareness. I am humbled by your pure kindness. Your pouring of well wishes and support picks up my spirit and gives me strength living my ALS journey. On Saturday, September 23rd, is the Les Turner ALS Foundation Walk for Life. The store will be closed on this meaningful day. The WPC crew will be walking, raising awareness, and fundraising for Chicagoland’s most comprehensive ALS care and support organization. Please consider sponsoring our team by donating to this very important foundation.

We anticipate the first week of October will be the last days of the store being open. This may change a bit as we move forward, but we will keep you apprised. We have discontinued boarding, nail trims and home delivery services as we will be understaffed to properly perform. As we prepare to land the plane softly, WPC wishes to fulfil all of its obligations. We would love to say goodbye in person. Perhaps you can take advantage of great savings as we liquidate over the next month. Everything must go! Every pet will need a loving home. All store fixtures and equipment, new or used, will be discounted.
Thank you all for thirty-four of the most wonderful years.
With all my heart,
Dave Cozzolino
